BRING A FRIEND TO ROTARY

The meeting was brought to order at 6:35 PM by President Steve with the pledge, song and then a prayer by Muriel.  The following members were present: Deborah, Julie, Peggy, Barbara, President Elect Muriel, Treasurer Rich, Secretary Joanne, President Steve, Bob Walker, Tom, Ed, Jim, Roy, Newt, Bill, Susan, Peter, Cheryl.  The following guests were also present Past District Governor Marion Stark, Matt Smith from the Commack-Kingspark Rotary Club, and Susan Tew (Jim Murphy).

Tom and Rich made up at The Bellport Rotary Club meeting held at the Bellport Fire Department on January 29th, 2008.   Bellport club is looking for a new location as a couple of the Restaurants they used have been sold.   Next week Bellport is having its meeting at the Cigar Bar in Medford at 6:30 PM I believe it is Tuesday ask Tom or Rich if interested they are going to attend and bring a film of camp Paquatuck with them.  Thanks guys.

President Steve received a letter from the Moriches Paquatuck Squaws thanking us for the nice Recognition dinner and for allowing their husbands to be a part of the celebration.   They were also very appreciative of the aprons and said they hope they will keep filling the pockets of the aprons with cash for the camp.

There will be a board meeting after our regular meeting on Feb. 7, 2008.

Don't forget the Stuff a Bus at King Kullen in Manorville takes place Feb. 9 from 9 -3 some members have already signed up for a 2 hour time slot.  If you have not done so please sign up next Thursday night.

If you need to get in touch with Kota to take her out for a day or dinner or whatever she will be moving to Peter Traina's house.  He and his family are very much looking forward to it.

Ed handled the Sergeants Report this week and did a very fine job.

We had the Foundation raffle.

We received a check from the Rico Memorial foundation for our Christmas food Baskets fund.  That was very nice of the Rico Fund thanks to Joe Maag, Anthony, and family. Will drop them a Thank you note.

The 50/50 was won this week by Rich and Peggy.  Peggy pulled the Lucky Card the Ace of Spades so the two could share.  Our Sergeants report grew nicely part because of Ed's Report and because Rich and Peggy each gave a nice donation back.  So next week the game starts over with a new deck of cards.

Our fellow Rotarians from Re/Max Old Carriage House Realty are again doing a fund raiser for the children's Miracle network and are asking our support for their other love.  They handed out fliers it will take place at Rock Hill on Saturday Evening March 1st. from 7 to 11 PM and it will benefit their charities Bristol-Meyers Squibb Children's Hospital, Children's Specialized Hospital, Maria Fareri Children's Hospital, Schneider Children's Hospital and the Children's Hospital at Montefiore.  Henry Haid from Broadway's Musical Movin Out & his 10 piece band will perform doing a different program from last year.  Tickets are $75.00 each 4 hour cocktail party, concert and open bar.  They passed out fliers so if you weren't at rotary this week ask one of them for a flier at the next meeting.

Matt Smith from Commack-Kingspark Rotary Club spoke on the Green Pages Directory they publish each year.  it is $15.00.  He also talked on the District Conference April 10 to the 13th at Saratoga Springs.  It is 50 to 60% sold out so if you want to attend hurry and send in your check.  It is at the Gideon Putnam Resort and Spa.  There is an application in the District news letter for January.  I made a few copies.

Our Guest speaker Thursday night was Past District Governor Marion Stark from Westhampton Rotary Club.  She spoke on a couple of different things and one was the Foundation.  She filled us in with the news that the Group Study Exchange this year will be from the Philippines and that their club will be having the group at some point.  It helps bring peace to the world through understanding.  Educational Ambassador Scholarship means a student receives a scholarship to go to a foreign country as a peace scholar & study for 2 years peace & conflict resolutions. She also discussed matching grants. Also The Foundation -Every Rotarian every year.  In our club see Cheryl if you want to make a payment to the Foundation such as $100.00 a year.  You can ear mark it to whatever you want like a sustaining member or Polio Plus or many other choices.  If at some point you gave $10,000.00 you would be a major Donor.  There was much more she talked about but to long to go into it all.  It was very educational.  Thanks Muriel for contacting Marion.

Our Speaker next week February 7 will be Gwenn Le Marge and she will talk on the District conference.  February 14th is Valentine's day and it is bring a spouse or special person to Rotary night.  February 21st Ladakins is closed se we will be meeting at Paul's rest.  Feb.28th is merchant of the Month.
