QUILL 1/4/07

BRING A FRIEND TO ROTARY

The meeting began at 6:35 PM with the pledge, song & prayer.  Present at the meeting was 15 members as follows: Garry, Joe Maag, Janice, Bill L. Peter, Deborah, Susan, Cheryl, Werner, Roy, Rich, Bob D., Tom, President Bob, Secretary Joanne and our Guest from Westhampton Club and our Camp Bill Dalton.

Tom Chieffo spoke about Squaw appreciation night and getting our act together and deciding where we will have it and whether the husbands of the Squaws should be invited.  Yes the husbands definitely should be invited.   The place, Camp or a restaurant?  We now have a committee to investigate the where and they are Peter, Bob D. & Bill L..  they will report back this Thursday with info to be decided immediately as the event if the Squaws are available would be Feb. 9th a Friday night.

The 50/50 was won by Rich who chose the 4 of Hearts.  So our game continues.

NEXT WEEK IMPORTANT --- the November and December Students of the months will be present along with their families.  Lets have high attendance so we can honor them properly.   Thank you. We will be given the bigger room to make it more comfortable.

Getting back to Squaw appreciation night, we have to have a gift for each Squaw and Joe Maag will be calling Port Jefferson Sporting Goods store  this week to see about zipper hooded jackets  with logo for the squaws.  Also Joe will need sizes so he needs to contact the squaws and get a list of names and sizes and see if Feb. 9th is good for the Squaws.  Most important can the jackets be ready for that night?
The Budget committee will decide how we pay for the shirts.

Our budget committee is Deborah and Garry.   We have a lot of work for you.  Including The Interact students are going on a retreat (at Thunder Bay, Lake Placid) and we decided one student from each school will go free,  The others will have to pay, Eastport has 8 students wanting to attend.

We need a budget for things like community needs so we don't have to pass the hat all the time, as people become tapped out. Where do the happy dollars and Sargents report money go, etc?  We need our Treasurer present at the meetings to address these things - very important.  Years ago the 70's, 80's, & 90's it was done by pass the hat, but today they feel it should be done from a club budget. To be continued at our next meeting.  The Students of the month will be there, how do we pay for their dinners?

Rich brought up that next years Treasurer will need a lap top computer, which we need anyway.  Need to do research on where and how much they cost.  Maybe Rich will look into this for us?

Put these dates on your list.
Spigot dinner April 19th .  Janice suggested having it at the Center Moriches High school -- if she puts it through as an Interact project it should be no problem. Security Guards, etc., would be coved doing it this way.  Janice will look into this for us and return the findings.

Bow -a-Rama - March 24th -Shirley Bowl

The Swims at St. Joseph Susan reported  the dates are: Jan. 7 & 21, Feb. 4 & 18th, March 4th & 18th, April 1st. & 29th Time 12 to 2 PM.  Susan would appreciate some of our club Rotarians be present.  She is there every time, so it would be nice if some other members could attend from time to time.

District Conference is at Gettysburg - Janice & Garry are attending.  Anyone else interested???

We were discussing other places for our meeting if Tavern on Main (Sea Cove) closed for renovations. Stacy checked it out for us and reported Ali will be open on Thursday nights for us and the renovation crew will work around not being there on Thursdays.  So for now all is well for our normal meeting night and place.

We had our Sergeants Report and the Foundation Raffle.  Joanne provided the prize to Newt.  Next week Newt will bring the prize.

Everyone enjoyed this Club assembly meeting and would like to have it quite often.  They thought it was a productive meeting.

Dale advised me that the dictionaries are in for East Moriches school. The dictionaries are going to 1st through 4th grades on Feb. 8th at 9:30 AM at the East Moriches Elementary School.  At our meeting this Thursday we need to make a list of who will attend the presentation.  President Bob has to check with William Floyd and find out how many dictionaries are needed for their school, he has not reported back with this number as yet.

See you Thursday at Tavern on Main (Sea Cove).

That's all there is......................................Joanne
