New Business & Topics of Discussion:

  • Report from Barbara about the adopted family. The raffle went well and she thanked those who helped sell tickets. One family had 3 children and Barbara bought toys for them and another family was losing their home and they wanted a scooter and clothes. It went very well. Barbara thanked the club for letting her do this because she loves doing it. Money raised goes to community service.

  • There was a problem with a Hampton Bays woman. There was a mistake that we were withdrawing food baskets and she was upset. It turns out it was another club and Muriel took care of the situation.

  • The hams were delivered to the Center Moriches Methodist Church. Thanks to Newt and Peter for helping out.

  • Report of the District meeting on January 2nd. Muriel went to the meeting.

1. Guest speaker Gin Lee, a professor at Hofstra University. Rotary International sent her to Vietnam for 3 months. Muriel has asked Bob to ask her to be a guest speaker at one of our meetings.

2. Fred Notter spoke about International. Gift of Life is still alive and well. Haiti project is going extremely well. 149 children have been screened for open heart surgery and 20 kids have been selected to have the surgery.

3. There is 10,000 homeless children in Suffolk County.

4. The district is in the process of selecting exchange students. Goal is to have 20 students next year. The exchange students are invited to the Nassau District conference as well as the Interact students this year. The exchange students are not coming to our conference because we are going on a cruise. Muriel asked Bob to look into getting a speaker to talk about the short term student exchange program that takes place over the summer.

5. For 2010, the district wants to do something new. It’s going to be a weekend at a hotel in Nassau County. The meeting will combine Suffolk, Nassau and NYC presidents. There should be about 150 people.

6. Next District meeting is on February 2nd in Ronkonkoma.

  • There is a camp board meeting on Monday 1/12.

  • There is no Stuff a bus on Saturday January 10th.  The weather will not be great.
