Assembly Meeting at the Camp!
Topics: Bob’s idea of an assembly meeting is to open the floor to ideas, suggestions and for people to state what they think is going wrong and where and how to improve.
Andy will be inducted as new member next week!! Welcome Andy!!
Bob would like to hold the regular rotary meetings at the camp and have it catered. He will work out the kinks with the catering, delivery and clean up. This meeting was catered by Cathy’s Kitchen in East Moriches and the food was good. Everyone is welcome to bring there own alcoholic beverages but the idea was that soda and water would be made available. There was a lengthy discussion about the positives and negatives with a result that perhaps we can try it for November and December. There will be a continued discussion and a vote taken at next Thursday’s meeting (at JC’s).
Christmas Party – Barbara discussed the continued work on arranging the Christmas party and selling the raffle tickets to win a Wii. Each person bringing children to the Christmas party must bring a gift, with a value of no more than $15, for Santa to give each child they are bringing. Admission is $20 and children under 12 are free. Current plan : Tree lighting, children eat, then there will be magician to entertain the children while the adults eat.
Adopt a family - Moriches Rotary has a family that they are “adopting” for the holidays. It is mother raising her daughter (8) and her step daughter (12). Her husband recently passed away. The proceeds from the raffle will be used to by the items on their “wish list” and of course anything that anyone else wishes to contribute. They are in desperate need of warm clothing. Jim graciously offered to donate a laptop to the family as it was one of the eldest daughters wishes. Thanks Jim.
Gift of life program meeting. Moriches Rotary will be sending two people to the meeting regarding Gift of Life. Ryla students raised the money for three surgeries last year.
Recruiting New members – Bring a friend to rotary!! To be scheduled. Advertise in local paper thanking the community for their support, with pictures of all members and a list all the things that rotary does.
Camp Director of Development – The Camp has hired a new director of Development. Her name is Karen and she is starting this Monday. She will be attending some rotary meetings in the near future.
ARE WE MERGING WITH THE BAHAMAS DISTRICT?? – I was slightly confused at how this could be but it appears as if 7250 has not met their membership requirement and there may be a merger of Nassau/Suffolk districts.
Old Business:
Octoberfest – there was a discussion that the fall carnival in East Moriches hosted by the Westhampton Kiwanis did well but the big rides attracted a lot of trouble. They had many fights and the cops were over there many times, making our Octoberfest Carnival much more attractive.
