BRING A FRIEND TO ROTARY

The meeting was called to order by President Steve at 6:30PM with the Pledge, song, and a prayer by Muriel.  The following members were present: Bob Walker, Joe Maag, Tom, Barbara, Newt, Denise, Roy, Bill, Peter, Bob Dovale, Jim, Ed, Janice, Susan, Julie, Deborah, Cheryl, Garry, and President Steve, President Elect Muriel, Secretary Joanne, & Treasurer Rich.  The following guests were also present Bill Dalton from our Camp and the Westhampton Rotary Club, Garry Block (Denise's husband) and Brooke and Page Ed's beautiful daughters.

Tom went to Firematics and picked up 4 boxes of Road Flares for the parking of cars at the spooky Walk. Thank you Tom.  Ed found the Flash lights and the glow in the dark vests just where he thought they were.  These are some of the things that take place behind the scenes at an event where we are assisting the Squaws at their wonderful event which earns big dollars for our camp. The rest of us are taking turns working at the food tent etc. Other Rotarians are parking cars.  We had a very heavy rainy the first night but we did have some customers and we were there working.  But Saturday night was just wonderfully busy.

Brooke Wesche was called on to talk about RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards).  She participated in this event in which the students run the meetings, select the speakers, etc., and the Adults are there just to supervise.

Garry attended from Oct. 2nd. to Oct. 7th the Rotary International Zone 31 & 32 Conference in Mystic Conn. It was also the 20th Anniversary of Women in Rotary.  He brought back two Women in Rotary pins.  One he presented to Muriel our longest Women Rotarian.  There was one other women before her in our Club Dottie Payne but her stay was very short as a member. Since Muriel joined many women have followed.  She is already a Past President of this Club and will be President again next year. The other pin he presented to me, Joanne Walker because of working behind the scene's assisting my husband a member of Rotary and also a past president (a member from around 1978).  The title then was a Rotary Ann.  After that he mentioned that I was a Squaw. ( 10 years.)  Then finally after a speech I made at a Rotary meeting, saying how the week after my husband passed away I was cut off from receiving the Quill and how lost I felt as ROTARY was a big part of our life.  I was then asked to become a Rotarian.  Thanks Garry, it meant a lot.

Barbara Caldwell is again doing the Holiday Raffle.  She gave everyone 20 tickets to sell. The Raffle date is Dec. 13th, 2007 at our Rotary Holiday Party.  The prizes are a Wheelbarrow of Toys and a Bike.  First winner will have a choice and the second winner will receive the remaining prize.  She is doing this raffle jointly with the Center Moriches and Eastport South Manor Interact Clubs. She is the Club Rep. at the Center Moriches Interact Club assisting Janice Graft.  PLEASE BRING new toys to our meeting as the wheel barrow holds a lot.  Give them to Barbara.  Please sell, sell, sell those tickets.  Many of you have small children and also lots of Grandchildren who would love you to win them. Barbara is another women in action in Rotary.  The Chances are $5.00 each.

Muriel attended the Leadership Institute on Saturday, October 20th which ran from 7:30 in the morning till 3:30 PM and then she came and worked at the Spooky Walk. It was at the Islandia Marriott .

Muriel and Barbara also attended the Meeting at Dobbs Ferry and they were very impressed with one of the speakers on Polio Plus.  There are just 4 more major countries to be immunized.

Our Guest Speaker for the evening was our own Ed Wesche, Funeral Director. This particular casket came from Italy.  Nice job Ed.

Remember if you promised to work at the Spooky Walk next weekend, please attend.  I would guess there was about 4000 people Saturday night.

We need everyone at the meeting next week as it is Student of the Months and Merchant of the Month being honored.

I just spoke to Bob and his mom is in the Hospital and very bad. I told him our prayers are with them.  We will be informed of any news or information.

See you Thursday at Ladikins.

Well, that's all there is............................................................Joanne
