BRING A FRIEND TO ROTARY
The meeting began with the pledge, song and prayer. There was 18 members present as follows: Newt, Garry, Janice, Bill, Dale, Barbara, Bob D., Peter, Lou, Tom, President Elec Steven, Werner, Rich, Deborah, Ed, Cheryl, President Bob, Secretary Joanne. The following guests were present Student of the Month Liann Choi, her Dad Albert, Mom Mei & her brother Jared. Our Exchange Student Melina and Exchange student Christina.
Dale spoke about the Dictionary program. The distribution will take place Thursday, Feb. 8th at 9:30 AM at the East Moriches School. The members who volunteered to be present, please arrive a little ahead of the appointed time. Newt will print the labels for the books. 334 students will be receiving the dictionaries from the first to the 4th grades. Dale brought the two different dictionary's to be given out to the students depending on grade level. They really look very nice. Nice job Dale.
Peter & Bob D. thanked the club members who attended their fun raiser for the Children's Network at Rock Hill Country Club. They were able to raise $ 7,500.00. In the future they hope to set a fund raiser up for the Camp.
Janice spoke about Interact at the Center Moriches High School. They sent T shirts to the service men and they had feed back on it that two soldiers met because of the shirts marked Center Moriches. The other things were not sent as yet because the Xmas stockings that were to be used was received late so they are planning to send the other items in the spring. They are going to send the Gold bond Powder that Muriel obtain through the Nurseing Home. A lot of the money went for shipping. They are still working on a way to get other small items to go with the powder. She was trying to have each of the Interact members bring some small items in, but as yet they have not. Barbara will be the Clubs representative for Center Moriches Interact and of course Janice is the Teacher Representative leader of Interact.
The 50/50 was won by Bill who selected the King of Diamonds, so the game goes on.
Tom announced the Carnival will be the 2nd. weekend in August running Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. It would be the 9th, 10, 11th, and 12th of August.
The Eastport-South Manor Interact Club Senior citizen dinner is March 21st. Wednesday at 6 PM at the High School and they could use our help in the Kitchen. Let us know how many members could give a hand that night.
We are supposed to make a display for the district Conference. A Display for the table should be 5 or 6 children's books. We should discuss this at the next meeting. The Conference is April 26th, 27th, 28 & 29th at Gettysberg.
March 24th is our bowling fund raiser at the Shirley Bowl. Let Bob know how many people are attending. It starts at 6:30 PM. The profit from this fund raiser goes to the Club.
Janice advised us she got the approval for the Spaghetti Dinner to be held at Center Moriches High School on April 19th. Peter and Bob D. have volunteered to be the heads of the committee. The profit from this fund raiser goes to the camp.
Leann Choi was given a plaque at our meeting as Student of the month from Center Moriches. She spoke extremely well. She has been a member of Interact for 3 years. She plans on studying International Business. She plays Soccer. She has already been excepted to the University of Bridgeport and has applied to other colleges that she is waiting to hear from.
We had the Sergeants report and the Foundation Raffle. Peter was the winner for the Foundation Raffle and will bring the prize next regular meeting night.
The Meeting this week will be at Ladikins on Friday night, Feb. 9th at 7PM & will end at 11 PM. We will be honoring the Squaws that evening and the wonderful work they do to raise funds for the camp. Please make every effort to be there and bring your spouse or significant other with you. The only excuse for not being there is if you are out of town. Otherwise all members are expected to attend. The cost is $23.00 each member or spouse, etc., and there is a cash bar.
There was a Club board meeting after our regular meeting last Thursday and it was voted on to approve the budget that Garry, Deborah and Ed worked on. Thank you goes to the hard work of the committee.
