Topics of
Discussion:
-
The Squaws
appreciation dinner was great. The Squaws has a great time. Whether
you came to the dinner or not, every member is required to pay $30 to
offset the cost of the event. Bring your money to the next
meeting if you have not sent it in.
-
A suggestion was made
that the camp has an advisory committee. Board to help raise money for
the camp. Board would include Rotarians, squaws, members of the
chamber; anyone who would like to get involved and help the camp. The
board would be responsible for coming up with programs, raising funds,
etc. They would meet 6 times a year.
-
The camp received a
few donations. These funds will go to expand the dining room. With
wheelchairs, the dining room needs more room to feed the campers.
-
Aaron Stein still
needs a host club for one week, April 5th to 11th.
We need homes to host the group study exchange students ASAP. We will
take them on the 6th.
-
The Easter Egg Hunt
will be taking place on Sunday, April 5th at the camp for
kids up to the 6th grade. 1pm to 3pm. Please show up at
12:30pm to help. We will have the egg hunt, pictures with the Bunny,
hayrides, and coffee/hot chocolate to sell. This is a fundraising
event.
New Business:
-
We got a new sign
that says we will be meeting at JC's Restaurant. Peter volunteered to
put the sign up on Wading River Road. Thank you Peter.
-
The 4-way test signs
came in. Those who will be at the camp on Tuesday (to discuss the
restoration of the caboose) can help decide where to put them.
-
Muriel was at the
camp last night for the polio meeting. It was a very moving meeting.
Northport is doing a polio fundraiser on April 25th. 5
people from Broadway shows are singing that night. $100 a ticket
includes appetizers and dessert/coffee. To purchase tickets call
261-2900.
-
There is a fundraiser
on September 1st at the Duck’s Game. Each club is getting
45 tickets. Proceeds will go to Polio Plus.
-
The district would
like to have a major fundraiser for polio plus. If you come up with
any ideas, please let Muriel know.
-
Bob spoke about
Octoberfest. Peter and Bob have been working hard to begin getting
ready for the event. We are going to have a carnival, 12 rides, bands,
a fire show, and hopefully we will get the road, so we can have
vendors. We will have a beer tent and beer steins that we can sell as
a souvenir.
-
We did the sergeants
report, Foundation, and the 50/50. Sergeants-$52 50/50-$0. Foundation
$15
Old Business:
-
The spaghetti dinner
is being held at the
Center
Moriches
High School on Thursday, April 16th. Bob handed out 20 tickets to each
member. Please sell your tickets. (Kevin donated the tickets, so thank
you to Kevin.) Bob has flyers for your windows, so please see him if
your need a few. Bob has paid for some ads. If you have raffle items,
see Barbara and Joanne. Joanne needs liquor for the baskets at the
next meeting. PETER NEEDS A CHECK ASAP FOR THE PLACEMAT ADS.
-
There will be an
additional meeting on April 17th (not our meeting---a
separate meeting) at the Irish Pub for those who are going to the
District Meeting. If you are going to the district meeting, you have
go to that meeting to pick up your stuff.
-
The District Assembly
on April 18th will be at the camp beginning at 10am. It is a work day
and families are invited. We need Rotarians to be there to help cook
lunch.
-
Janice will be
bringing in Dr. Donald James, Superintendent of the Center Moriches
School District on April 30th to speak to our club
-
We are still working
on the letters to invite people to our membership events. Muriel
inquired about the 10 envelopes to each person and asked that we
address them with 10 people we can send an invite to. Even, if you
have to go to the phone book to get names and addresses. Date is
Sunday, May 3rd from 1pm to 3pm at the camp. We also will
be inviting past members to attend. Please let Muriel know who you
would like added to the list.
-
On Monday, May 11,
2009 the FDR Special Needs Scouting Division will hold its annual golf
classic at the Hamlet Wind Watch Golf and County in Hauppauge. This
year the Division will be honoring Steve Fuoco. Event begins at
7:30am. Please put
this date in your calendar.
-
Beginning in the
July, the monthly district newsletter will be delivered in bulk to the
clubs. You will be able to pick up an issue when you attend a meeting.
An email copy will also be sent to you.
-
Tom has been writing
an article that will be going into the south shore press every couple
of weeks. If you have news that you want in, please send it to Tom.
·
If you
have made up a meeting or attended another Rotary event, please let
Deborah know so she can mark you as attending a meeting.
