Speaker & Topic:

·         Muriel spoke about the COPS meeting; Councils of Presidents.  District Governor George Solomon and the leadership of Rotary 7260 would like our participation in the pilot program of the Rotary Foundation known as the Future Vision Plan. We will be participating if we are selected. Going forward money donated, 50%, would come back to the district and 50% would go to International versus 80%/20% now. Muriel’s recommendation is to agree to the district applying in the pilot program for the next 5 years. In 2103, the district will go the way of this pilot program. The club agreed with Muriel’s recommendation. See Muriel if you have more questions about this.

·         Muriel spoke about every Rotarian every year. This means each member gives $100 to the foundation each year. She has the applications and would like everyone to give. Please see Muriel for your application.  You can contribute at http://www.rotary.org/en/Contribute/Pages/ridefault.aspx

  • Rotary international wants to know if we want liability insurance for club officers to protect the offices of the club for good faith decisions. The cost is $300 annually. Jim will review the application and get back to us with his findings.
  • Dictionary project update. Right now we have 160 dictionaries. Newt met with the Clayton Heuy principal and the date to give out the dictionaries is 9:45am on October 10th.  They will have an assembly and a presentation. It will cost us about $700 to get the remaining dictionary we need to cover both the first and second grades. Muriel will apply for a simplified grant to pay for this. We may or may not get it.  The club is in favor of doing this project.
  • The Rotary Club of Islandia is having a towel drive to provide towels for homeless people in a homeless shelter. All they need is one towel from each person in our district, thus from our club. They need 10,000 towels. They do not have to be new towels. Please bring one towel with you at the next 2 meetings.
  • We have a new chairman for polio plus. Susan from the Mastic club will be taking this position.
  • Gift of life reached a new milestone. They have just announced their 10,000 th child. A journal is being put together and distributed to gift of life donors throughout the world.
  • Muriel presented a pin for Rotarian of the Month for October. Muriel could not choose one great Rotarian so she chose Newt and Kevin.
  • Bon thanked everyone who came to the golf tournament last week and he said it was a great success. Next year, we need to give them a list of names and Bob urged us to participate.
  • Bob spoke about next year’s Duck BBQ. Newt and Kevin are ready to pass the reins. We need someone to step up and take Newt’s & Kevin’s position. They will work with the people who choose to step up. We need new people by December 31st.
  • The new camp board member for Westhampton is Marie.
  • Helmut spoke about Peggy. He thanked us for our calls, cards, flowers, thoughts, and prayers.  She is doing better every day.
  • Stuff-a-bus is on October 4th. We need people to work 3 shifts, 9am to 11am, 11am to 1pm, and 1pm to 3pm.
